The Folkestolen – low, robust and iconic
The Story Behind
The Folkestolen is one of the most durable wooden chairs in the history of Danish furniture design, and it has been in use at DTU since the 1960s. Found in storage, these chairs now stand in Building 313, where they have been restored with new woven seats, refinished woodwork, and newly made cushions.
They formed part of the interior design project for Building 313, whose aim was to reuse as many high-quality furniture pieces as possible without purchasing new ones. In the end, however, some new furniture also had to be introduced, as there were not enough suitable pieces available in storage to meet all the project's requirements.
