Mobility

DTU has a vision of efficient, low-carbon mobility that prioritises pedestrians and cyclists. Travelling to DTU by more sustainable modes of transport should be easy, and moving around campus on foot or by bicycle should be a safe and enjoyable experience. More people should arrive by bicycle and public transport, and fewer should arrive by car.

The Light Rail at DTU Lyngby Campus

The Greater Copenhagen Light Rail completed its inaugural journey in August 2026.

For DTU, the light rail has strengthened connections between the campus, central Lyngby and the wider Greater Copenhagen area. At the same time, travelling to and from campus by public transport has become significantly easier. For example, the light rail provides a direct connection to the S-train network via Lyngby Station.

The light rail runs between Ishøj and Lyngby. The 28-kilometre route comprises 29 stations. Two stations are located on DTU Lyngby Campus: one on Akademivej and one on Anker Engelunds Vej. In addition, there is a stop on Rævehøjvej adjacent to the campus.

Background and Campus Development

DTU carried out preparatory infrastructure works, and in January 2021 the Greater Copenhagen Light Rail began construction of the line. At the same time, DTU developed a master plan for the area surrounding the light rail corridor. The focal point of the plan is ”Origo”, where the four quadrants meet. Origo serves as a meeting place and event hub and takes its name from the origin point of a coordinate system.
