Kemitorvet was inaugurated in 2024 as a new green gathering place at DTU Lyngby Campus. The square has been transformed into an active campus environment where students and staff meet for daily breaks, academic activities, and social interaction outdoors.

The square accommodates both everyday use and events - from informal meetings and outdoor breaks to milestone celebrations and larger gatherings.

Four highlights

A green Chemistry Square (Kemitorvet)

The landscape design strengthens DTU's green identity and improves conditions for both people and nature. The 135-metre square is structured by rows of robinia trees that provide shade, shelter, and a strong green character.

Existing trees have been preserved, and the planting is organised in multiple layers with a focus on biodiversity, native species, and an improved microclimate.

The basin garden

Near B202, a basin garden in dark granite frames a smaller square close to the water. The area supports informal stays and breaks, while flexible outdoor furniture makes it easy to gather outside.

The multifunctional arena

In front of B207, a circular arena has been established as a central meeting point. The arena is used for lectures, events, and shared activities and functions as a flexible outdoor space.

Large gable bench

At the gable of B208, a large stepped seating area provides space for breaks, informal meetings, and social interaction, contributing to an active campus environment.
